Introduction
G. S. Tompe Arts, Commerce & Science College was established in 1968 run under G. S. Tompe Mahavidyalaya Sarvajanik Trust Chandur Bazar, which has been rendering valuable services in the educational field of the rural area particularly in Chandur Bazar Tahsil since last 50 years. The College initially started Arts and Commerce faculty at Junior and Senior level. Geography department started with 82 students in 1998-99. Dr. Vijay K. Tompe (H.O.D.) joined the department as a lecturer on 13-12-1999. Mr. Sachin N. Bhombe and Mr. Shashikant P. Dupare joined the department as an Assistant Professor on 1-06-2009 and 2-06-2009 respectively. At present, the students’ strength of the subject is 488 in total. The girl students are more in number than 50% for improving the quality of the subject particularly. Our department regularly organizes Educational Tours every year and prepared survey report of Geographical Educational tours from the students. We regularly organize College term examinations, Unit test, Seminars and Model making as the students supporting activities. Also the department implements lots of ‘Geographical Teaching Aids’ in teaching learning process, for example, Maps, Census, Atlases, Charts, Over Head Projector, Film Projector, L.C.D. Projector and Visualizer. Also various useful educational Books and journals are available in the departmental Library for the academic development of the students.
Department runs a UGC Sponsored Career Oriented Course on Geographical Information System (GIS) for students of B.A. Geography and B.Sc. Geology so that students can develop potential and skill to earn while learning.
Our department has just established the Research Centre for the Ph. D. Students which is fully equipped with all advanced facilities. Our department is facilitated with the “Mini Lab for Water and Soil Testing” to help the regional farmers to keep pace with advanced farming techniques.
